OCST Coaches

Coach Ben: With 13 years of competitive swimming experience as an athlete and as a coach, Ben Talbott mixes a passion for the water with a passion to excel. He started swimming competitively with David Douglas Swim Club at a later age than normal, 12, but it was clear he was a natural as he quickly moved his way up to the senior squad. He began his coaching career right out of high school and has been coaching ever since. Over the past seven years he's coached for David Douglas Masters, Eastside Water Polo Club, Gresham High School Swimming and Water Polo, and Oregon City Water Polo. His coaching philosophy revolves around the concept that athletics, especially swimming, should be as much about fun as it is about valuable life experiences.
"Coach Matt" Coach Matt: Matthew Crum has a total of 20 years competitive swimming experience. He started racing at the age of 5 in Peninsula pool, swam for Portland Parks Swim Team (now PAC), the Multnomah Athletic Club and completed his career at the collegiate level for Wheaton College. A passion for the water and competitive swimming Matt can always be found close to the pool. After college Matt coached the South Salem Saxons for two years and is now coach for the Oregon City High School team as well the club.
In the pool Matt works to help each competitor reach his or her personal potential! Coach Matt brings a challenging yet compassionate and caring approach to coaching and works to build confident and thoughtful athletes.
Coach Anson: With 6 years of swimming at the Oregon City Swim Club and two years of coaching experience, Anson can teach as well as inspire.  He loves working with kids and teaching them that swimming is competitive, but fun as well.  Anson
has experience lifeguarding and teaching lessons at the municipal pool.  In two years, he reached Oregon City's highest swimming group, the silver group.  During his Junior year at Oregon City High School, he was selected captain of the high school team. He was a district finalist in the 500 free for three years and the 100 butterfly last year. Right now he is a senior in high school and plans to keep dedicating his spare time to kids.
