Coach Matt

Matthew Crum has over 20 years competitive swimming experience. He started racing at 5 years old in Peninsula pool, then swam for the Portland Parks Swim Team (now PAC).  During high school he joined the Multnomah Athletic Club swim team and completed his racing career at Wheaton College. A passion for the water and competitive swimming; Matt can always be found close to the pool. After college Matt coached the South Salem Saxons for two years, coached the Oregon City High School team for three years and has been coaching the club team since 2007.

At the pool Matt works to help each competitor reach his or her personal potential.  He brings a challenging yet compassionate and caring approach to coaching and works to build confident and thoughtful athletes.

Coach Ben

With 16 years of competitive swimming experience as an athlete and as a coach, Ben Talbott mixes a passion for the water with a passion to excel. He started swimming competitively with David Douglas Swim Club (now Mt Hood Aquatics) at a later age than normal, 12, but it was clear he was a natural as he quickly moved his way up to the senior squad. He began his coaching career right out of high school and has been coaching ever since. Over the past nine years he's coached for David Douglas Masters, Eastside Water Polo Club, Gresham High School Swimming and Water Polo, Parkrose High School Water Polo, as well as his current position as Head Age Group Coach for the Oregon City Orcas.

Although his competitive expectations are always very high, his coaching philosophy really revolves around the concept that athletics, especially swimming, should be as much about fun as it is about valuable life experiences.

Coach Kayla

Kayla Livesay swam competitively for 10 years with Oregon City High School and the Oregon City Swim Team.  In 2008, Kayla competed in the Western Zone Championships in the 100/200 Fly, 400 IM, and 800 Freestyle at the age of 17.  She hopes to share her love and enthusiasm for swimming as the assistant age group coach for OCST.  Coach Kayla has been coaching for OCST since 2009 while also attending Portland Community College as a full time student.

Coach Kayla loves coaching at the age group level, being part of competitive swimming, and teaching kids how to love the sport too.
